My early experiences as an anxious child led me to produce calm, stable settings in my artwork. Growing up in a family that changed locations often taught me to look for recognizable landmarks for the stability I needed— landmarks found in the heart of the state I call home.

My intent for this body of work is to represent the existential anxieties I so often experience, set in ordinary locations in Connecticut. By painting familiar, commonplace scenes, I have been able to gain insight into the impact my own experience with anxiety has had on my relationships with the landscapes of Connecticut—as well as the impact it has had on my own work.

Rachel has been actively participating in artistic endeavors for the past fifteen years in both academic and extracurricular settings. Her artwork is the result of attempts to depict the often turbulent relationship between man and nature.

Inspired by the sinuous, glowing forms and rich hues of the Italian Baroque period and the undulating lines of Art Nouveau – she utilizes a variety of saturated colors and old-fashioned textures to create an ethereal atmosphere for her subjects.

Focusing mainly in acrylic and watercolor painting as well as illustrations in ink, she tries to display the warmth of human relationships and the beauty of the natural world, as well as the dark, twisted, and often hidden monsters that lurk in the shadows: both real and imagined.
